Bar 50 is open daily from early
morning until 1am, and is the bar of the 'A&O Edinburgh
Hostel' (previously Safe Stay Hostels)
located with entrances on Blackfriars street and Cowgate.
The
venue is just off of the Royal Mile in the heart of Edinburgh's Old
Town and the hostel is an award winning,
five-star visit Scotland accredited hostel and is nearly fully
booked right through the Fringe, giving the venue an audience
that is staying right in the venue itself.
The venue is also popular with
fringe-goers and performers, being a cheap student-style bar,
with a large open courtyard in the centre of town attached to
enjoy a drink and meal in during the Fringe.
The venue has four performance spaces - The Alcove, Marquee, Side Room
and Upstairs.
Performance Space: The Alcove

Stage: 2.5m Wide & 2 m deep raised to 3 inches. No wing space or back
stage.
- Capacity: Capacity 60 seated, with room for 5 people
standing.
- Lighting: 2xLED Par Can to flood light the stage. Colour washes and
dimming available with small lighting desk.
- Sound: 8 Channel Mixer,
Cables for MP3 Player, 2 Mics, Cables and Mic
stands. Performers own sound equipment can be added easily.
- AV: There
is a large LCD TV screen to the side of the room, and a
projector and screen on the stage.
- Storage: There is a very small area for equipment in the venues
luggage store. This is used for luggage as well as props and is
very limited, and not secure.
- Bar: There is no bar in the room.
- Accessibility: The room is wheelchair accessible, it is located on
the ground floor near the entrance.
Performance Space: Upstairs

Stage: 2 Wide & 1m deep flat on floor. A small amount
of wing and back stage space/storage area.
- Capacity: Capacity 35 seated, with room for 3 people
standing at the door
- Lighting: 1xLED Par Can to flood light the stage.
- Sound: 4 Channel Mixer,
Cables for MP3 Player, 2 Mics, Cables and Mic
stands. Performers own sound equipment can be added easily.
- AV: There is no AV provided in the space.
- Storage: There is small area for equipment in the room, to the side
of the crowd. This Area is limited, and not secure.
- Bar: There is no bar in the room.
- Accessibility: The room is not accessible, it is located up a
flight of stairs.
Performance Space: The Garden Room

Stage: 1.5m Wide & 1m deep flat on floor. No wing space - very small backstage
- Capacity: Around 60 seated
- Lighting: 1xLED Par Can to flood light the stage.
- Sound: 4 Channel Mixer,
Cables for MP3 Player, 2 Mics, Cables and Mic
stands. Performers own sound equipment can be added easily.
- AV: There is no AV provided in the space.
- Storage: There is a very small area for equipment in the venues
luggage store. This is used for luggage as well as props and is
very limited, and not secure.
- Bar: There is no bar in the room.
- Accessibility: The room is accessible, flat entry from courtyard and ground floor bar.
