Comedians put the world to rights in panel show, 101 Rules for a Better World (by Comedians), which enjoyed a sold-out run at EdFringe 2025.

Host Leslie Gold (as seen at the Comedy Store) and Producer Nick will invite different guest comedians each day to present ideas to improve the world at large - imagine the opposite of Room 101. Whether the rules are adopted is down to an audience vote each day.

By the end of the Fringe we hope to have 101 of these suckers and then... well, we have plans which may or may not involve petitioning the government to adopt the best rule(s)!

Basically it’s comedians putting the world to rights - because somebody has to.

101 Rules for a Better World (by Comedians) created by Leslie Gold. Three other comedians from across the Edinburgh Fringe take their seats on the panel to decide with the help of Gold, which rules should be made law in the interest of the UK public.

These new rules can be anything that the comedians find annoying or generally anti-social in their opinion. That will potentially help everyone on a daily basis.

Today’s show saw the disgusting habit of some spitting on the pavement being discussed and that when you order a fried breakfast that both fresh and tinned plum tomatoes should be served as standard. After all, who doesn’t like their bread or toast soaked in tinned tomato juice. It was agreed fairly unanimously that both should be served.

Another rule was discussed about football. However, it was discussed in some depth and will be better listened to if you can find the podcast. I certainly can’t even begin to explain it, a bit like the offside rule.

There’s an advisory notice before the show begins that it’s being recorded for a podcast and that it will eventually be available on demand.

Watching comedians add their own slant and comedy to these rules is a fun way to start the Edinburgh Fringe day at Bar 50 down in Cowgate. It’s part of the free Fringe and you’ll be invited to pay what you want.

The audience is also encouraged to add a rule into the show as well. Which will be discussed in the same way as the panellists. My advice is to come up with an idea that may or may not be heard.
